Michele Franks, Lincolnshire ARK

“When instructing an expert, you hope that they are professional, cost-effective and able to respond to their instructions within a reasonable period of time of being instructed.

“It was refreshing to work with an expert who was promptly able to take charge of the issues that required their input and to offer a service that went beyond our initial instructions and expectations.

“The report prepared by Ken Maggs was carried out in good time and was prepared comprehensively, but in a format easy to understand.  Whenever I am asked to put forward potential experts in the field of forensic accountancy, Ken Maggs is inevitably on the list.”

Roger Terrell, Terrells LLP Solicitors

“Dear Tim, John and I would like to thank you and the staff at Moore Thompson, and prior to that Ground & Co, for looking after our affairs for the last 57 years”

Jean M. Woodhead

“Following my meeting with Matthew I should like to take a moment to thank Moore Thompson and in particular Matthew. He continues to answer all our questions efficiently and in a helpful manner.

I appreciate the flexibility your people have demonstrated and the support they have offered to me to get my business off the ground. I look forward to working with you through into the next tax year and hopefully beyond.”

Samuel Lewis, Wincor Nixdorf International GmbH

Paul Johnson has a straightforward reason for why his firm has been a Moore Thompson client for three decades: “If something works for you, why would you want to change it?”

Moore Thompson’s Mark Hildred has been advising Holbeach-based Terry Johnson Ltd since Paul’s father Terry set up the business in 1986 and has seen some significant developments in that time.

While the firm’s workforce has remained at around 20 since it was founded, the firm’s client base has steadily grown and now includes businesses across the UK as well as in Europe and Australia. In 1993, the company bought another local company, Swift Lift, and under that name manufactures a range of agricultural and industrial elevators and conveyors along with the Todd sugar beet cleaner loaders

It also carries out sub-contract manufacturing work, including guillotining, drilling, sawing, welding, painting and final fitting, and deals in second-hand machinery.

With plenty going on in the business, Paul, now the firm’s sales director, appreciates the way that Mark and the wider Moore Thompson team “are always at the end of the phone”, particularly when there’s a query or problem.

Moore Thompson also provides year-round support with services including payroll, year-end accounts and looking after the directors’ pensions and Paul expects the firm to become involved in auto-enrolment implementation at Terry Johnson.

Alongside that ongoing support, Moore Thompson also steps in to provide advice on specific or one-off issues. For example, at one point Terry Johnson’s previous bank sought to reduce the company’s overdraft facility, which would have had serious implications for the business, but Moore Thompson provided financial data that led the bank to rethink.

It’s that kind of service that leads Paul to say: “We cannot fault Moore Thompson – they are always there when we need them with good sound advice and the skills to back the advice up.”

Trust is a factor that shouldn’t be underestimated in any relationship, especially the one between a business and its accountancy firm. This is particularly true when the relationship is as longstanding as the one between AbbeyPrint Limited and Moore Thompson, which began more than 30 years ago.

In that time, AbbeyPrint Limited has grown to become one of the largest colour lithographic printing companies in South Lincolnshire, as well as the area’s leading independent supplier of office products, business machines, office furniture and computer consumables.

The team at Moore Thompson have always been on hand to provide advice, which means they know the company inside out.

“That is a major benefit,” says managing director Helen Slinger. “I trust Moore Thompson as we have worked with them for so many years.”

In addition to handling the end of year accounts, Moore Thompson helped every step of the way during a management takeover, advising on issues such as shareholder agreements.

The accountants also assisted when AbbeyPrint Limited purchased the adjoining premises – advising on the tax implications and the best way to do it – and through the recession, by looking at ways the printing company could promote its products and improve its profitability.

“If we have any queries from the financial side, Moore Thompson is always our first port of call,” says Helen Slinger.

“I would not hesitate to recommend Moore Thompson to a new customer who was in need of an accountant, as we have always got on well with them and they have done well by us.”

“Ken has a rare in-depth knowledge of the FSA’s client money rules and understands the measures necessary to comply with them. His sympathetic approach to CASS audits is realistic and informed, but remains helpful.”

Jim Dart ACSI, Cert CII, Cert PFS, Managing Director at Dart Compliance Ltd and Associate at Bluerock Consulting Ltd

“When working together or referring a client to Ken I have always found his knowledge, support and understanding invaluable in getting the right outcome for the client.”

James Storr, Specialist Education Relationship Manager Lloyds Bank Plc – East Midlands & South Yorkshire Area

“Craig has been a fellow member of a business club I have been regularly attending for nearly 3 years. There are many more memorable professions than Accountants, however Craig’s depth of knowledge, memorable stories and succinct descriptions of how a simple piece of advice from his company, can save Tens of Thousands of pound, certainly get my attention.

In my experience, many accountants struggle to translate the vast knowledge they have, into useful and actionable advice and planning for the business owner.

With Craig Reid, this could not be further from the truth! A very impressive, genuinely warm and likeable person who has destroyed my stereotypes of accountants for good!”
Kevin Mclvor

“I wanted to thank you in writing for the amazing way you helped me to sort out the problems caused by my previous accountant.

With only a few days to go before the April tax deadline you gave me the guidance I needed and took on the work I didn’t have the time or knowledge to tackle. Only through your efforts was the deadline achieved.

I will certainly recommend your services to others, confident that you will give them sound advice and save them unnecessary stress.”
DB Sound and Vision

“I would just like to thank you and your team for the professional and efficient way you helped bring Stan’s tax affairs up to date.

In the future, when I come across people who are in need of an accountant or tax advisor, I will definitely point them in your direction.”

“I am very pleased to say that you have supplied a quality service, with effective accounts information which will help me to make key decisions which will help my company in the future. The exchange from my existing accountant was undertaken with your customary polite and professional nature.

I have no doubt that your advice and service will benefit my company as it grows and it will be my great pleasure to refer you into any client, who in the future requires this professional, polite & knowledgeable service.”
Sphere Risk – Health & Safety Management Ltd.

“I thought I would take a moment to put down in writing the help you and your team have given me over the last year or so.

When I restarted VSS you sat down and very carefully advised me on the best way to move my business forward to reduce my tax liability and maintain a good cash flow.

Whenever I ring your offices the advice I get is simple to understand and very helpful.

I have and will continue to recommend your firm to my customers who want a more pro-active accountancy firm.”
Vital System Services Ltd

“You are a star! I didn’t like to ask for a quick turnaround again but you did it anyway, so thank you. Why would I ever want to do payroll inhouse! ”
Links Labels & Tapes

“Please pass on my thanks to Sandra for working with us during this difficult time as we are trying to automate our payroll as much as possible.”
Sentinelle Security Services Ltd

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for the efficiency with which our payroll service is being run. I believe this has been of benefit to the company and was instrumental in regaining a valued member of staff. The ‘large’ garage franchise he left me to join last year were unable to pay him on time and correctly work out the overtime owed on many occasions.

Again, my thanks for your excellence in this. ”
