Autumn Statement – 25 November

Chancellor George Osborne will deliver his Autumn Statement on 25 November.

The forecast will be made alongside the government’s spending review.

Pension tax issues could feature in the statement, a matter on which the government has been consulting, saying it sought a simpler procedure that would encourage more young people to save.

A review of the way pensions were taxed – potentially involving an ISA-type system – was announced in the Chancellor’s Summer Budget. Under workplace ISAs, no tax relief would be paid on contributions, but savings could be taken out tax-free on retirement.
