Financial Advisers One Of First To Achieve Chartered Status
Spalding-based independent financial advisers MT Financial Management Ltd are among the first in the country to gain a prestigious new chartered status.
The company heard this month that its application for Chartered Financial Planner status, awarded by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) – the leading professional body for the insurance and financial services industry – had been successful.
The new chartered status was only introduced on 1 May this year, and MT Financial Management began its application process within three days of the launch.
Trevor Wilshire, financial services director with the company, said: “Chartered status demonstrates that we offer the highest standard of professionalism that can be achieved in the industry.
“It says to our clients and professional contacts that we are on an equal footing with other professions, such as chartered accountants and solicitors, with expert knowledge and understanding of our industry.”
Trevor, a chartered financial planner, added: “Although we knew we were eligible for the chartered status, it is still very pleasing to know that we are one of the first to achieve it – although it is still so new, there is no central directory of companies who have done so.”
MT Financial Management provides a range of financial planning services, including investments, pensions and protection policies other than the traditional household and motor insurance. The team has particular expertise and technical knowledge in specialist areas including trusts and large-scale investment portfolios, some running into millions of pounds.
To achieve chartered status, MT Financial Management had to show that at least half of its directors or partners are chartered in their profession and that at least 90 per cent of its customer-facing staff belong to the CII or Personal Finance Society, another professional body.
Chartered companies must also provide annual evidence that they are providing continuous professional development for their staff and are committed to the CII code of conduct and ethics.
