Planning for long-term care
The UK’s population is growing older and living longer. By 2025, it is estimated that more than a third of people in the UK will be over 55, while the number of people aged 85 and over has already reached a record 1.2 million.
These factors mean that in the future, more and more people are likely to face the issue of paying for long-term care.
For many older people, their only option may appear to be selling their home to pay care fees but if keeping your home and other assets to pass on to your family are a priority for you, advance planning can make this possible.
For example, we can help couples and civil partners to draw up their wills in such a way that if one partner dies, their half-share of the property goes into trust for the benefit of their children, while giving the survivor occupancy rights.
This also means that the share of the property that is held in trust cannot go towards paying the survivor’s care fees.
