Solicitors’ salaries rise by five per cent

Salaries in the legal sector have increased by five per cent on average during the last year, according to new research by The Lawyer.

Its study found that 72.4 per cent of solicitors in the UK received a pay rise in 2014-15, with the largest increase offered by law firms in Scotland, where nearly 30 per cent of respondents enjoyed a pay rise of more than ten per cent.

National firms with multiple offices across the UK were most generous, while in-house lawyers and those at boutique firms were most likely to receive no increase at all. Nearly a third of respondents in this category saw no pay rise in 2014-15.

Pay rises are always welcomed by the recipients, but what about ensuring your staff are paid correctly? Moore Thompson believes paying staff without error and on time is crucial to keeping your team happy, but it can prove a challenge for busy business owners and managers.
