Daredevil accountants test their nerves for charity
Accountants at one of the East of England’s leading accountancy firms Moore Thompson are planning to abseil more than 250 feet down The Orbit at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London for charity.
A total of Nine colleagues from the firm are hoping to overcome their fear of heights by tackling the task on 22 July 2017, to raise money for the Moore Thompson Charitable Fund CIO – the firm’s in-house charity – which this year is supporting two local causes Lives and Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.
Emma Wilson, Kirsty Holmes, Hannah Watkins, James Walsham and Jordon Wingert are part of the team taking part in the abseil from The Orbit at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London in aid of the Moore Thompson Charitable Fund CIO.
Organised by two of the Fund’s trustees, Emma Wilson and Laura Grimer, the event will see Claire Abbott, Hollie Abbott, Julie Green, Kirsty Holmes, Hannah Watkins, James Walsham and Jordon Wingert join the duo for the nerve-wracking descent.
Speaking ahead of their abseil, Emma and Laura said: “We are really excited, and also fairly scared, to be taking on this challenge but we have high hopes of raising lots of money for the Fund so it will all be worth it in the end.
“We are calling on everyone to get behind us and give what they can so that we are able to help wonderful local causes.”
Descending from the top of The Orbit will offer the team incredible views of London, but the team have admitted that they are more likely to have their eyes closed than enjoy the view of The Gherkin, St. Pauls, Canary Wharf and Wembley Stadium.
Mark Hildred, Managing Partner at Moore Thompson, said he had a lot of admiration for what his colleagues were attempting and hoped it would help raise hundreds for the charity.
“What the team are doing is immensely brave and I would like to wish them the best of luck next year with this tough challenge. I hope that this event raises significant funding for important local causes.”
Moore Thompson raised more than £2,600 through a number of charity events and sponsored activities last year, which it donated between local branches of Cancer Research and the Princes Trust.
