With the UK in financial turmoil, rumours of recession abounding and the government closing its wallet, you could think looking for grant funding might be futile. But that’s not necessarily the case.

When it comes to looking at grant funding opportunities it pays to have inquisitive habits and tenacity. The way grant funding landscape is akin to a squirrel burying nuts for winter. Hither and thither with a logic known only to the squirrel.
The picture has also been muddied somewhat with Brexit. Prior to leaving the EU, much regional grant funding was distributed by the European Regional Development Fund. This process has either ended or is in the process of being wound up this year.
Essentially though most grant funding will be available at a national, regional or local level.
So where to start the hunt? A first port of call should be your local Chamber of Commerce. You should be able to get a snapshot of the local grant funding from there website, without joining. Of course, joining would enable you to get the benefit of their expertise. Many offer free business advice/coaching as part of their membership.
Most areas also have a Local Economic Partnership which links the government, local authorities, and business. These hubs look to link up businesses in an area and promote opportunities, an essential stop for anyone looking for grant funding.
Universities also often core centres for business incubation and development. There is usually a technology slant to their opportunities. But it is always worth making an initial web search to look at what there is though.
