Taxpayers who have not yet filed their tax return for 2016-17 have just a matter of hours to take urgent action if they want to avoid paying a fine.
Online returns, including balancing payments, need to be filed by midnight on 31 January 2018. After that date – even if you have no tax to pay – you will receive an automatic £100 late filing penalty.
