Key Dates
Although many of us have been enjoying a warmer September than usual, there’s no doubt that autumn is approaching – which means it is time, once again, to focus attention on important tax dates.
Whilst September is a relatively quiet month, there are three key submission dates in October that you need to be mindful of, so it makes sense to get ahead now.
If you’ve not previously submitted a self-assessment tax return, you must register by 5 October 2022 in order to submit for the 2021-22 tax year to get your Unique Taxpayer Reference number (UTR) number and activation code in time, which you need to file your first return.
You have until 31 October 2022 to send in your paper tax returns. However, if you receive a notice from HMRC that you must file a tax return after 31 July 2022, you’ll need to send back the completed form within three months of the date issued on the notice.
