New grant scheme from Natural England to help declining species
By Chris Wright, Partner and ARA specialist.
The Species Recovery Programme Capital Grant Scheme (SRPCGS) is a new grant scheme launched by Natural England to help reverse the decline of threatened or endangered species.
The grant is open for partnerships, businesses, and organisations, and private individuals can work with a lead organisation to apply for the grant.
The aim of the grant is to support activities that will enhance the habitat and create new infrastructure for threatened or endangered species. The grant requests can range from £50,000 to £500,000.
The SRPCGS grant covers several activities, including habitat enhancement and/or creation works, purchase and installation of new site infrastructure, preliminary surveys to inform subsequent capital delivery and subsequent surveys/monitoring to assess their effectiveness.
The land under Countryside Stewardship (CS) and Environmental Stewardship (ES) agreements is eligible for the grant, so long as they are not delivering the same outcome. The grant is open for partnerships, businesses, and organisations, and private individuals can work with a lead organisation to apply for the grant.
