The Big Bike Revival programme – Grant funding opportunities for non-profit organisations

The Big Bike Revival programme is currently accepting grant applications until 15 December 2023. This programme is designed to encourage more people to take up cycling.

The programme is based on the FIX-LEARN-RIDE model, which has been proven to effectively engage people in cycling activities. This winter, the programme is seeking partners to help shape the events and add value to the existing model.

Target audience

The programme is aimed at people who do not cycle regularly, defined as cycling once every two weeks or less. It focuses on engaging people with social, economic, and health needs, as well as those from diverse backgrounds facing multiple challenges.

Who can apply?

Eligible delivery partners include:

  • Volunteer-led groups
  • Non-for-profit organisations
  • Social enterprises

These organisations should be rooted in local communities and have experience in addressing a range of local needs, particularly in engaging with non-regular cyclists and people facing social, economic, and health deprivation.

Types of events to deliver

The FIX-LEARN-RIDE model comprises three pillars:

  • FIX – Repairing and maintaining bicycles.
  • LEARN – Educating participants on how to cycle and maintain their bikes.
  • RIDE- Organising guided bike rides on local routes.

Where and when to deliver?

The programme should be delivered locally in the community, at locations that are easily accessible to everyone. Ideal venues include high footfall areas, community centres, or your own workshops. The programme starts on 4 November 2023 and ends on 25 February 2024.

How to apply

Contact a local cycling development officer or the Big Bike Revival team to discuss your event plans and confirm grant availability in your region. Alternatively, click here to begin the application process.

Grants of up to £2,500 are available. For the full grant amount, it is expected that partners will deliver around eight events.

Grant applications are open until 15 December 2023.

The Big Bike Revival presents a fantastic opportunity for non-profit organisations to secure funding and contribute to a socially impactful cause.
