New leave and pay entitlements to support bereaved parents

New workplace rules are being introduced which entitle parents who lose a child under 18 years of age to paid bereavement leave. The right also extends to parents who lose a child after 24 weeks of pregnancy.

Royal assent was given to the Parental Bereavement (Leave and Pay) Act in September last year, and the fine details are currently being worked out in order for it to be presented to parliament. The act is set to come into force in 2020.

Are you ready for week 53 payments?

If you pay your employees weekly, fortnightly or every 4 weeks, rather than every calendar month, you might need to make a ‘week 53’ payment in your final full payment submission of the year.

For the 2018/19 tax year, tax week 53 is Friday 5 April 2019.

Upcoming payroll changes may trip up unwary employers

Business owners are being reminded to take sufficient measures to prepare their businesses for the upcoming changes to legislation regarding payroll, which will come into force on the 6 April 2019.

The changes to the legislation are being introduced in a bid to improve the transparency around workers’ pay and how it is calculated by employers.
