Capital Grants scheme sees over 8,000 Farmers share £150 million

By Robert Blair, Partner and ARA specialist

The Government have confirmed all £150 million of the latest round of Capital Grants funding have been allocated.

Applications for the scheme have now closed but don’t worry, a new application window for the scheme is expected to open in 2026.

Record numbers in record time

Over 8,000 farmers applied for the scheme in under five weeks, figures never seen before.

Farmers that did apply will be finding out if their application has been successful via The Rural Payments Agency (RPA). Others may also have to submit further information before their grant is approved.

Most applications for this scheme have been to improve areas of their farm and business, providing them a valuable opportunity to make subtle improvements to increase revenue opportunities.

Many farmer applications were focused on grants for reducing farming’s impact on water quality. As farmers protect their assets, it was clear they were keen to upgrade yard proofing and improve fencing to keep livestock out of water courses.

The scheme returns in 2026

Schemes like this give farmers the opportunity to upgrade their facilities and potentially begin plans to expand.

While the application window is closed, you will be able to apply when the scheme reopens in 2026 with DEFRA planning to make further improvements.

There could be record numbers once again applying so make sure you are keeping an eye out on potential dates.
